“My son” (October ‘08)
Continuing
from where we left off last month, notice, Solomon is treating one of the
primary themes of these “My son” passages and that is, memorization of the Word of God will
give victory over “the
strange woman”. Although memory of Scripture will supply the believer with
God’s peace/presence 24-7 if meditation is included as shown in Proverb 6:20-23, Solomon
continues revealing the primary physical and spiritual benefits of Bible
meditation:
“To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery
of the tongue of the strange woman. Lust not after her beauty in thine heart;
neither let her take thee with her eyelids. For by means of a whorish woman a
man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the
precious life.” (Proverb 6:24-26)
The remainder of the sixth Proverb
supplies a number of illustrations, a contrast of a lesser crime [theft] and
then the bottom line is found in verse 32:
“But whoso commits adultery with a woman lacks
understanding: he that does it destroys his own soul.”
This destruction of the soul is permanent
unless the wayward one finds mercy and grace through the Cross of the Lord
Jesus Christ and the precious Blood He shed for the sins of mankind so that
they might be forgiven:
“In Whom we have redemption through His Blood, the
forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace.”
(Ephesians 1:7)
“For by grace are ye saved through faith, and
that not of yourselves, it [salvation] is a gift of God not of works lest any
man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8,9)
The enduring and eternal mercy of God
opens the door for His grace to be applied to the soul of any man woman or
child who reaches out by faith to receive Him as their Savior! His precious
Blood is able to supply God with “The Great Bridge of Righteousness” which
reaches into the heart of anyone who will call on Him:
“For whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord
shall be saved” (Romans 10:13)
This brief quotation is but one of the
roads on “The Highway of Salvation” found in the book of Romans. However, all
roads, highways, interchanges etc.start with and lead to the Lord Jesus Christ
and His Precious Blood for He has given His Father the ability to walk over
this Supernatural Bridge which is paved with the Blood of Jesus to meet with
mankind and offer His “so great salvation” to all who will repent and call upon His Name.
This is a simplification of the great
doctrine of the propitiation of God (Romans 3:25; I John 2:2) which in short
terms means that He was and continues to be satisfied with His sacrifice of His
only begotten Son. Keep in mind that it was God that struck the death blow upon
His Son as clearly taught in Isaiah 53:4-12.
Although many today blame the Jews or the
Romans they were just willing participants in “The Greatest Plan of The Ages”
which was authored by God the Father Himself! Remember, Jesus of Nazareth, the
Divine Son of God, was His Father’s Sacrifice for without the Blood of Jesus,
God could not offer His righteousness to men!
Oh, how marvelous is His great
plan for the lives of men who will but simply call upon His Precious Name: “He is able to do exceeding
abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that works in
us, Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus through out all ages, world
without end. Amen!!!”
(Ephesians 3:20,21)
Yes, He has a plan for you and me, it has
already been outlined from the foundation of the world and He is willing to
bring it to pass if only you are willing to receive His great gift of salvation
through the Blood of His Cross and the life of the Lord Jesus Christ:
“Except a man be born again, he cannot see the
kingdom of God…That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born
of the Spirit is spirit…Ye must be born again.”(John 3:3,6,7)
“Being born again not of corruptible seed but
incorruptible, by the Word of God which lives and abides forever.”
(I Peter 1:23)
While this
may appear to be a “rabbit trail” in our “My son” discussion keep in mind the greatest “My Son” in all of Scripture is the Lord
Jesus Christ:
“This is My Beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased”
(Matthew 3:17)
